TNEC-Safety and Health Training
Course Listing
The New England Consortium (TNEC) University of Massachusetts/ Lowell is sponsored by the National Institute of Environmental Health and Safety’s Worker Education Training program (NIEHS/WETP) to provide health and safety training relating to hazardous materials. (TNEC) is a New England/ New York regional partnership between the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) and RICOSH, CTCOSH, MASSCOSH, NHCOSH, and Civil Service Employees Association Local 1000, AFSCME.

National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH)

NIOSH is the workplace safety and health branch of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). NBC employees can visit this page for information on workplace hazards and exposure information, chemical safety, emergency preparedness and response, disease and injury information and safety & prevention resources.
Region 1 OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Center, New England

OTI – Region 1 New England is based out of Manchester, NH and offers in-person and virtual Instructor-Led training on OSHA standards applicable to various types of hazards. Training is available throughout various locations in New England, including right here at NBC. For each class that NBC hosts, two NBC employees are allowed to attend free-of-charge. OTI courses can be applied toward safety certifications that are officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor.
RI Department of Labor & Training (RIDLT) – Division of Occupational Safety

The RIDLT Occupational Safety Division protects the public and private sector by enforcing health and safety standards and making information available to the public. Broken into four sections – Boilers, Elevators, Right-to-Know and Weights & Measures, the Right-to-Know Section applies to the majority of NBC operations. NBC is mandated by Right-to-Know RI General Laws to maintain a list of hazardous chemicals in the workplace, provide employee training on chemicals that will be handled by certain employees, and maintain an annual registration with the RIDLT.
RI Department of Health (RIDOH)

The RIDOH is home to the state’s OSHA Consultation Program. This is a free and confidential service that allows for RIDOH health & safety consultants to conduct safety audits of workplaces in RI, upon request by the employer. Hazards, if present, are identified and assistance is provided for alleviating those hazards without fear of penalties or fines.
RIDOH’s Radon Control Program also requires NBC to test occupied buildings for radon concentration every three years in order to show that radon levels are below the established EPA acceptable threshold.

SARI is an organization comprised of health and safety professionals throughout Southeastern New England that brings to its members national viewpoints and local expertise in the fields of safety, occupational health, and environmental management. Members meet to discuss and present safety challenges facing business and industry today. NBC employees interested in learning more about today’s “hot topics” in safety are welcome to attend one of SARI’s quarterly meetings/presentations.

Beacon Mutual is NBC’s provider of Workers Compensation Insurance. Beacon’s Loss Prevention consultants and ergonomic specialists are able to provide NBC employees with free safety training, safety committee development, safety audit services and safety seminars. NBC employees are also able to obtain their OSHA 10-Hour Certification (General Industry or Construction) through Beacon for FREE, either virtually or in-person. Beacon’s website also provides a vast array of safety resources and fact sheets.
